The 90’s

I of course love the 90’s.  It was when I was in high school, and my first few years of college.  I love music from the 90’s too.  VH1 has their top 100 songs from the 90’s.  And while I agree with most of them, I think they might have added a few to the list by mistake.  There are a few that have NO business being in the top 100.  For example:

20. Hanson “MMMBop”

06. Sir Mix-A-Lot “Baby Got Back”–#6, Really?!?!

68. Will Smith “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It”  BLAH!

75. Kris Kross “Jump”–ha ha ha, I haven’t thought about this song in YEARS.  Do you all remember they would wear their pants backwards?

But they do have some greats one, and so many remind me different things and times:

48. Matchbox Twenty “3 AM”–my trip to NY to see Randa when I was in high school.  It was like the only CD I had that the time, and it was a long plane ride.  I pretty much have the entire album memorized.

54. Joan Osborne “One of Us”, and 35. Oasis “Wonderwall” –My trip to San Fransico, again to see Randa, but this time with my BFFJenny 🙂  Do you remeber this Jen?  Randa had MTV and VH1 and they played these over and over.  I still love both of these songs.

59. Weezer “Buddy Holly”–High school asembly time anyone?

64. The Presidents of the United States of America “Peaches”–Classic in it’s stupidity.

40. Color Me Badd “I Wanna Sex You Up”  2 names:  Randa and Landi

01. Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit”  Not just for assemblies, but for EVERY high school event that had speakers available.

08. TLC”Waterfalls”–oh the days of working at The Bay.

And I think they left a few off.  I mean it has nothing from the Smashing Pumpkins, and I love them, and I think they were totally 90’s.  Here is the entire list, and a free trip down memory lane:

  1. VH-1 doesn’t know what they are talking about. First of all, if you are going to include rape/hip-hop in a list of the best music of the 90s there better be Snoop, Bone, Busta Rhymes, Wu Tang, Warren G (Regulate), and Puff Daddy. Also, Tupac’s best song is Dear Mama. Though I do agree with a few of the choices on the list, I would have chosen different songs for many of the bands. Also, there is a lot of crap on the list that shouldn’t be on any “best” list.
Anyway, here are my choices, though definitely not complete, and not restricted to the top 100. Oh, and some of the bands have albums listed, rather than songs. Seriously, how do you choose the best Collective Soul song??
