YW Lesson #4 Seeking the Companionship of the Holy Ghost

Here are my handouts for lesson #4.  I chose the scripture from D&C 8:2 which reads:

Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.

For my treat I bought chocolate candy hearts to go along with with the scripture.

Here are my handouts for writing things off the board as instructed in the manual.

YW Lesson #43 Associations With Others

This is a good lesson this week, and I think it will be a fun thing to talk about.¬† It will be fun to listen to everyone’s perspectives on¬†the topics.¬† Since I read my lesson last week I just couldn’t get boxes out of my head, weird I know.¬† But it has now all come together.¬† I am going to talk about not boxing others out of our lives, and not boxing ourselves in.¬† I want the girls to learn to go outside of their comfortable boxes and try to expand themselves and grow themselves, while sharing their talents with others.¬† I want to let them know that when they choose to box themselves in that at the same time they are boxing others out.¬†

For my handout I went to the dollar store, and over in their wedding section they had these perfect little boxes.  You can get a pack of 8 for $1.00, what a total bargain.  Then I bought the Treasures candy to go inside.  I topped it off with my handout which reads:

“Don’t box yourself in and others out.¬† Open your hearts and share your ‘treasures’ with others.¬† “For all have not every gift given unto them, for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God” D&C 46:11.

YW Lesson #42 Preparing for Change

For my lesson this week on the topic of change, I am going to use the talk by President Monson, Finding Joy in the Journey.  I plan on talking to the girls about all sorts of change, both good and bad, and I am hoping to have a group discussion with them about how they each deal with change.  I want them to realize that we all deal with change differently.  For some people change is not that big of a deal, they can bounce right back, but for others it is much harder, and that it is ok because we are all on a different journey.  I want to let them know that both good and bad changes in life can seem scary and hard, and that we may not fully understand it all until later in our lives when we are able to gain some clarity and look back with new perspective.

For my handouts I used a quote from JFK which reads, “Change is the law of life.¬† And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”¬† I feel like this quote goes along perfect with President Monson’s talk.¬† I also put a little butterfly¬†on it so that it ties back into the introduction of the lesson.

YW Lesson #39 Recognizing Our Individual Worth

I had 2 weeks off from teaching thanks to Conference and Fast Sunday, but I am back and ready to go.

For my lesson this week I have decided that I am going read the¬†girls the book You¬†Are Special by Max Lucado.¬† I’m sure that everyone has¬†heard it before, but I feel like¬†it really¬†reinforces everything we are trying to teach in this lesson.¬†¬†

You Are Special (Max Lucado's Wemmicks)

For my treat this week I bought mini boxes of Dots for the girls.¬† I found a whole bag of them down the Halloween candy aisle.¬† These ties back into the children’s book I am reading them.¬† I am going to talk about not only the dots that we give to others, but those that we give to ourselves.¬†¬†I will tell the girls how we need to learn to love ourselves and make sure that we don’t hand out dots to anyone.¬†

 DOTS Original Chewy Candy

¬†And finally for my handout this week I used the quote from the¬†lesson by Marvin J. Ashton.¬† I didn’t tie it to the treat this week because I wanted something they could keep in their scriptures or put on their mirror at home.¬† Also I got the cute paper from¬†

YW Lesson #37 The Word of God as a Standard

Phew this lesson is going to tough.¬† It will require a lot of class participation, and I have a really quite class, so I hope it goes well.¬† For my lesson I am first going to¬†let them do the word search that has all the words at the first of the lesson, Marriage, Divorce,¬†Drugs, etc.¬† Once they are done with that we will talk about our views versus those of the¬†world.¬†¬†I am also going to bring some newspapers, and I will¬†have each one of the girls look up articles on the words in the word search, and we are going to see how many¬†worldly articles¬†we can find¬†compared to how many¬†actually follow what the gospel teaches.¬† I will have them cut them out and we will hang them up on the board¬†to see the difference.¬† After that I am going to cut out each of the little articles in the manuel and have them take turns reading each one, and we will discuss.¬† My handout for this¬†week is a¬†bag of Smarties,¬†and reads, “Be ‘Smart'” Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;¬†and lean not unto thine own understanding.¬† In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he¬†shall direct thy paths” Proverbs 3:5-6

YW Lesson #36 Marriage Standards

For my lesson I printed off the Spencer W. Kimball quote listed at the first of the lesson, large enough to hang on the board.¬† I also made smaller identical ones that the girls can keep in their scriptures.¬† For the other handout I plan on emphasizing that who they marry is their choice, and to make sure that a Temple marriage is their goal, and that it also needs to be the goal of those they choose to date.¬† Another big thing I will be talking about, which goes along with the treat for this week, (a Ring Pop), is that no matter what¬†they need to not settle.¬† The quote that I have on the tag that goes with the Ring Pop reads, “Don’t settle for the one you can live with, wait for the one you can’t live without.”¬†

Young Women’s Lesson #35 Dating Decisions handout

I teach the Beehives, so this lesson is a little tricky for¬†12 and 13 year olds because they still have 3-4 years before they even are allowed to date, and talking with them about Lust vs Love is going to be super fun ūüôā¬† So after I talk about those subjects, I plan on turning my lesson in a different direction, and talking about all the fun they can have on group dates, and how to have a blast while still staying safe.¬† I found a ton of cute dating ideas on, and I am going to copy a few down and give to the girls.¬† I also made the note cards for them to write down their dating guidelines, as outlined on the last page of the lesson.¬† And finally, for my handout, I combined 3 different ideas that I found on Sugardoodle.¬† The handout reads:¬† CAN’T WAIT TO DATE?¬† Be ‘chewsy’ with whom you share your ‘hugs’ and ‘kisses’ because the choices you make ‘now’ will affect what happens ‘later’….Make temple marriage your goal.¬† And of course I have a¬†goody bag¬†filled with Hersey’s kisses and hug,¬†a pack of gum, and some Now and Laters.¬† Click¬†the links below¬†for both of¬†the handouts:¬†

YW Lesson #32-Service in the community

Here are my super simple handouts that I did for my lesson tomorrow.¬† Our lesson is on service in the community.¬† I am excited about this lesson too, I think it’s such a fun subject to talk about, and hopefully get the girls excited about it too.¬† I made the tags in Publisher (Thanks Chaddy!)¬† Here is my link on SugarDoodle¬†if you want to¬†download the handout.¬†
